Frequently Asked Questions

What is the first step?

Reach out to us at alexandra.hamlet@dralexandrahamlet.com and we will promptly set up a time to speak with you to discuss your needs and situation. If the conversation feels positive, the next step would be scheduling an evaluation with myself or a member of the team so that we can develop a treatment plan for you/your family.

How often do we meet?

Most often, sessions are once weekly for 45 minutes. However, should you need more help at any point in your care, we can discuss adding in multiple touch points each week.

How long does treatment last?

Typically, evidence-based treatments such as DBT, RO DBT, and CBT are meant to be targeted and focused on achieving the goals of the individual. Treatment length varies based on the number and complexity of goals, the motivation of the patient and their family to do the work, and the severity of symptoms that the patient is displaying. The goal, however, is to help individuals live their own lives over time without our assistance as they become more skilled!

Are sessions confidential?

For the most part, yes. If we are working with a minor, and feel as though our patient is at risk for harming themselves or others, we will break confidentiality to support the child in the most ethically appropriate way possible. This will be with the child’s knowledge and ideally we would work together to inform the parent/guardian(s).

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance, however we do provide monthly paperwork detailing services rendered so that families may submit for out-of-network reimbursement should they decide to seek financial support.

How do I determine if insurance will reimburse me for therapy?

Our advice is to call your provider directly to determine what out-of-network coverage they offer.

What are the costs associated with therapy?

Each clinician on the team has a standard evaluation, hourly, and 45 minute rate based on clinical experience/background in training - please inquire during our first (free of charge) call!

What form of payment do you accept?

We currently conduct all billing on a secure portal, therefore it is our policy to accept major credit cards in lieu of checks and cash.

What is the rescheduling and cancellation policy?

For new patients, if the family misses their first evaluation appointment, they can reschedule without penalty even if the cancelation was at the last minute. For future last minute cancellations (within 24 hours of the scheduled appt time), 50% of the evaluation fee will be collected. For current patients, the practice policy is that the family gets charged for the missed session if they notify us within 24 hours of their scheduled appointment. However, we are flexible depending on the context of the situation. Our reasoning for the policy is so that others who would like to be seen can be scheduled in place of your appointment if need be! We like to help as many people as we can!
